[June 06, 2009]
The Lincoln Police Department
participated in the Illinois Department of Transportation "Click It
or Ticket" campaign May 15-31. The goal of this program is to reduce
accidents and make our streets safer for the motoring public. All
patrol officers who observed seat belt violations were directed to
stop those vehicles and issue a traffic citation to the driver and
any passengers who were in violation. The campaign calls for zero
tolerance for not using seat belts. Additionally, officers enforced
all of the fatal five offenses: speeding, DUI, failure to use seat
belts properly, following too closely and improper lane usage.
|
Lincoln police officers conducted 252 traffic stops during this
period and generated the following statistics:
Citations:
-
Seat belts, 91
-
Operating uninsured
motor vehicle, 32
-
Speeding, 23
-
Driving while
license suspended or revoked, 8
-
Illegal
transportation of alcohol, 1
-
Other traffic violations -- no valid
license, failure to yield, disobeying traffic control device,
illegal amplification (loud stereo), 38
Written warnings: 92
Voluntary compliance is the ultimate goal of the "Click or
Ticket" campaign. Wearing a properly adjusted safety belt
significantly reduces the risk of serious injury. Obedience to all
traffic laws is a key to keeping our streets safe!
