[June 12, 2009]  The LCHS Class of '77 is planning a class 50th birthday party for July 25 at Logan Lanes. The mixer will start at 6:30 p.m. Please RSVP to Jane Ryan at jquiz1@comcast.net or 732-9851, or Vicki Hasprey at fcc621@ccaonline.com. The class also has a page on Facebook (LCHS Class of '77 or close) which class members can join.

Satisfy your cravings on Saturday, June 13, when the Humane Society of Logan County will hold a bake sale (9 a.m.-1 p.m.) and a cookout (11 a.m.-2 p.m.). The main entrance of Kroger in Lincoln will be the site for the bake sale and cookout offering homemade pies, cakes, cookies, breads, pork sandwiches, hot dogs, chips and soda.

From 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. you can also get acquainted with animals looking for forever homes. The society will hold an ADOPT-A-THON with both dogs and cats available for adoption. These wonderful animals are currently living in foster homes, have been spayed or neutered, have received necessary inoculations, and are socialized to be able to move right into your loving home. Visit www.hslclincoln.org or call 217-737-4042 for details.

Friday night rides

Casual, organized bicycle rides will be held this Friday, June 12, sponsored by the Bike Trails Council. Everyone is invited and it's free. Meet at 6 p.m. at Latham Park. Chris and Emily Elam will host, offering both a recreational ride and one with more mileage.

Dates for summer rides: June 12, July 10, Aug. 14. All meet at 6 p.m. at Latham Park, across from Lincoln Public Library.

Culver's of Lincoln is joining in the theme of the 2009 American Cancer Society's Relay for Life -- "WISH UPON A CURE." On Wednesday, June 17, the local Relay for Life will receive 10 percent of that day's sales at Culver's to help "fight back" with research and assistance to those affected by cancer. Remember -- bring a friend and dine at Culver's, 2530 Woodlawn Road, from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday and help in the fight to stamp out cancer so our wish for a cure can become a reality. The Culver custard flavor of the day will be Mint Explosion.

Cumberland Presbyterian Women's Ministry invites the public to their rummage and bake sale on Saturday, June 13. The church is located at the corner of Broadway and Ottawa. The time is 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Proceeds will be used to fund church and community projects.

Lincoln Circuit Ride sponsored by the Lincoln Circuit Ride Committee

For three years now, the Lincoln Circuit Ride has brought motorcyclists and other Lincoln enthusiasts in cars along the old 8th Judicial Circuit that Abraham Lincoln rode as a lawyer. At the various courthouses where Abe practiced, local historians give entertaining examples of what Mr. Lincoln did in those communities. This has been recognized as an excellent melding of history and a contemporary road event. The 2009 Lincoln Circuit Ride takes four Sundays to complete the entire circuit. The first was in April, with a tour from Lincoln's Home in Springfield to the McLean-Logan marker. The June 14 ride departs from Postville Courthouse in Lincoln at 9 a.m. and ends at the Piatt-Champaign marker. For more information, visit www.lincolncircuitride.com.
