[June 15, 2009]  CHESTNUT -- Lee W. Koenig, 50, of Chestnut, passed away in the Lord at his home at noon Thursday, June 11, 2009,

His graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, at Laenna Cemetery, rural Chestnut. Pastor John Hafermann and the Rev. Joel Dietrich will officiate.

There will be no visitation.

Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski handled arrangements.

Mr. Koenig was a sergeant for the Department of Corrections for 27 years.

He was born June 7, 1959, in Lincoln to George R. and Betty Drake Koenig. He married Patricia "Patty" Wines in Chestnut on April 21, 1984.

He is survived by his wife, of Chestnut; his mother, Betty L. Koenig Montgomery (and Larry Fox) of Chestnut; and one brother, John W. Koenig of Chestnut.

He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents Michael and Mary Drake; and an uncle, Mike Drake of Memphis, Tenn.

He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Forsyth. He was also a member of Chestnut Fire and Rescue, a storm watcher, and a member of the Chicago Cubs Fan Club and the Dick Trickle Fan Club.

Funeral Director

He was an employee of the month in 2001, 2003 and 2008 and was the officer of the year in 2004 for the Department of Corrections.

Memorials may be made to Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois, S.C., Chestnut Fire and EMS, and Zion Lutheran School in Elkhart.
