Stay alert to changes in the weather

Forecast includes the possibility of severe storms through Friday

[June 16, 2009]  The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a hazardous weather outlook for portions of central and east-central Illinois. Counties involved are Champaign, Christian, Clark, Coles, Cumberland, DeWitt, Douglas, Edgar, Logan, Macon, Menard, Moultrie, Piatt, Sangamon, Shelby and Vermilion.

This afternoon and tonight

Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms will move through the area Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night. The stronger storms will be associated with a large complex of storms that is expected to develop northwest of the area and move into the area after midnight. There is a slight risk that some of the storms later Tuesday and Tuesday night could become severe, with damaging winds and large hail being the primary threat.

Wednesday through Monday

Additional rounds of thunderstorms will be possible Wednesday through Friday as additional disturbances and a strong cold front move through the area. There is a slight risk that any of these storms Wednesday through Friday could become severe.

Spotter information statement

Spotter activation may be needed Tuesday afternoon or later Tuesday night.
