[June 17, 2009]  Extension to sponsor bingo

The Logan County Extension Unit will sponsor the bingo games at The Oasis on Thursday, June 18, beginning at 1 p.m.

Alzheimer support group to meet

The Alzheimer support group will meet Thursday, June 18, beginning at 1 p.m. in the library at the senior center. No reservations are necessary. The group provides support and information for caregivers and extended family and is facilitated by a coordinator from Maple Ridge Care Centre.

The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director.

Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Memories class

The Memories class will be on Thursday, June 18, beginning at 3:45 p.m. in the library at the senior center. Participants are asked to bring their own pen and paper to learn skills needed to preserve memories for families and friends.

Oasis board meeting

The Oasis board of directors will meet on Thursday, June 18, beginning at 5 p.m. The meeting is open to the public. The board must receive notification in writing on or before the fifth day of the month prior to a meeting date to schedule any agenda items.

Bunco

Bunco games at the senior center will be on Monday, June 22, beginning at 1 p.m. Refreshments will be available, sponsored by Marilyn Armbrust from Regions Bank.

Atlanta bingo

The Oasis will have bingo at the Atlanta Community House on Tuesday, June 23, beginning at 1 p.m. Fun, prizes and refreshments.

Interactive diabetes classes

The Oasis is hosting diabetes classes offered by Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital. Jennifer DiPasquale, registered dietitian from ALMH, instructs the class at the senior center each Wednesday during the month of June. The classes begin at 10 a.m. No reservations needed. For more information, you can call the senior center at 732-6132.

Nursing Homes

Tuesday's lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for June 23 features pepper steak over rice, egg roll and dessert. The suggested donation is $3.75; if you stay to play cards, the suggested cost is $3.25. The reservation deadline is noon Monday, June 22.

Card winners

The winners for weekday pinochle were Joyce Voyles and Linda Hughes. The weekend pinochle winners were Helen Opperman and Marjorie Reiners. The five-in-one winner was Ella Graney.
