[June 18, 2009]  A strong storm with sustained 60 mph winds came through Lincoln at 5:33 a.m. Thursday. The winds, coupled with signs of rotation, caused EMA to set off the weather sirens as the storm's winds pounded the city.

DonutsThe storm brought heavy rains, causing several roads, including Ottawa at Keokuk and Logan at Lincoln Parkway, to flood to the point it was hazardous for vehicles. Roads were temporarily blocked off as city crews cleared debris from storm drains.

There were several random power outages, with a large block of homes and businesses in the heart of the city going down for four to five hours.

The largest power outage occurred at 5:57,  including an area that ran from Ninth Street to Keokuk, Union to Logan. At 10 a.m. power was restored to the residential area, but power did not come back up for the Keokuk businesses until 11:18 a.m.

Damage on the city's west side included a downed telephone line, and several business signs were badly damaged.

EMA director Dan Fulscher said that Lincoln received the brunt of the storm, with random reports of felled trees and limbs as well as the power losses, but nothing major.

He said that surrounding communities, although met with heavy rains, were not reporting in with any significant damage.
