[June 19, 2009]  (AP)  The 60-36 roll call by which the Senate on Thursday voted to support a "cash for clunkers" program that would offer government incentives to consumers who trade in vehicles that get poor gas mileage:

On this vote, a "yes" vote was a vote for the program and a "no" vote was a vote against it. Supporters needed 60 votes to keep the program as part of a $106 billion war-spending plan.

Voting "yes" were 54 Democrats, four Republicans and two independents.

Voting "no" were one Democrat and 35 Republicans.
