The 2009 Relay for Life of Logan County kicked off at 4:30 Friday evening with a Survivors Dinner.

Many of the teams who were participating set up tents for their home base.

The relay began with a presentation of colors by representatives from the American Legion in Lincoln.

John Guzzardo, emcee for the evening, along with event co-chairs Michelle Dahn and Hillary Escoubas, recognized one of this year's honorary co-chairs, survivor Joyce Klokkenga.

The teams consisted of anywhere from one person to 20. The path they were to walk for the next 12 hours was lined with luminaries. Those participating were children, teenagers, young adults, older adults and many, many cancer survivors.

Almost every team member wore their "HOPE" T-shirts.

After being introduced, they lined the gymnasium as they waited for the official call to begin their 12-hour trek.

Survivors wore medals around their neck and received special recognition from the emcee.
