Heat advisory in effect till 7 p.m.

[June 22, 2009]  The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a heat advisory that is expanded across central Illinois and is in effect until 7 p.m. Monday.

Temperatures in the lower 90s combined with high relative humidity will create dangerous heat index readings Monday afternoon.

The heat advisory is in effect until 7 this evening for the counties of Knox, Stark, Peoria, Marshall, Woodford, Fulton, Tazewell, McLean, Mason, Logan, DeWitt, Piatt, Champaign, Vermilion, Macon, Moultrie, Douglas, Coles, Edgar and Clark, including the cities of Galesburg, Peoria, Bloomington, Normal, Havana, Lincoln, Champaign, Urbana, Danville, Decatur, Charleston and Mattoon.

High temperatures will climb into the lower 90s Monday afternoon, producing heat index values to near or just over 100 degrees.

For the following counties, where the advisory is also in effect until 7 p.m. Monday, the heat index values will be from 100 to 105 degrees: Schuyler, Cass, Menard, Scott, Morgan, Sangamon, Christian, Shelby, Cumberland, Effingham, Jasper, Crawford, Clay, Richland and Lawrence, including the cities of Jacksonville, Springfield, Taylorville, Shelbyville, Effingham, Flora and Lawrenceville.

Precautionary, preparedness actions

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
