Just 1 more day for heat wave

[June 24, 2009]  Hot and humid conditions will remain entrenched over central and southeast Illinois as apparent temperatures return to above 100 degrees Wednesday. A weak cold front is expected to move across the area Wednesday night, bringing more seasonal conditions to the region for the remainder of the week.

A heat advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Wednesday for the counties of Knox, Stark, Peoria, Marshall, Woodford, Fulton, Tazewell, McLean, Schuyler, Mason, Logan, DeWitt, Piatt, Champaign, Vermilion, Cass, Menard, Scott, Morgan, Sangamon, Christian, Macon, Moultrie, Douglas, Coles, Edgar, Shelby, Cumberland, Clark, Effingham, Jasper, Crawford, Clay, Richland and Lawrence, including the cities of Galesburg, Peoria, Bloomington, Normal, Havana, Lincoln, Champaign, Urbana, Danville, Jacksonville, Springfield, Taylorville, Decatur, Charleston, Mattoon, Shelbyville, Effingham, Flora and Lawrenceville.

Temperatures in the 90s will combine with high humidity levels to return heat index readings in the region to near 100 degrees by late morning on Wednesday, with heat index values between 100 and 105 expected by early afternoon.

Precautionary, preparedness actions

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
