from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m., the Humane Society of Logan
County will be holding a dog wash at the Lincoln Kroger store.
Donations are accepted. For an extra donation you can climb in the
tub with your dog and beat the heat too.
All proceeds go to help the society
build a no-kill shelter for area animals in need.
preparation of the 125th anniversary of St. John's Lutheran Church of
Hartsburg, the church is launching "a year in celebration" beginning with an
ice cream social on Saturday, June 27, at 6:30 p.m. in church basement.
Donations will be received and matched by the Logan County Chapter of Thrivent
Financial. Entertainment will be provided by the Central Illinois Banjo Group,
which will feature the talents of Les and Carol Happ of Hartsburg. The public is
invited to attend.
On Sunday morning, June 28, the Rev. Harold Grafe, former pastor of the
church, will offer the sermon during the 9:30 a.m. worship service. Coffee and
doughnuts will be served prior to the service, beginning at 9 a.m.
Organizational meeting for the 2009 CROP Walk will be at 7
p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, at St. John United Church of Christ, 204
Seventh St. Keri Davison from the regional CWS office will be
leading the meeting. This year the community walk will be uniting
with the Logan Correctional Center's CROP Walk. Representatives from
the local churches and organizations and other interested
participants are encouraged to attend this meeting.
The date for the Logan County 2009 CROP Walk has been set for 2
p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at Kickapoo Creek Park at Jefferson Street
and Lincoln Parkway.

Lincoln College Days at O'Brien Field and Busch Stadium are
coming Aug. 14 and Sept. 20. The Lincoln College Office of Alumni
Relations is hosting a Lincoln College Day at O'Brien Field in
Peoria on Friday, Aug. 14, and at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Mo.,
on Sunday, Sept. 20. The games will match the Peoria Chiefs against
the Burlington Bees, and the St. Louis Cardinals against the Chicago
Cubs. These events are open to all Lincoln College alumni, friends
and members of the community, but ticket quantities are limited.
The cost for the Peoria Chiefs game is $25 per person and
includes a private, open-air party area overlooking third base, a
buffet dinner, unlimited soda and beer, a goodie bag, door prizes,
and a spectacular fireworks show after the game.
The cost for the Cardinals/Cubs game is $125 per person and
includes a game ticket for a stadium seat overlooking third base,
with access to the Bank of America all-inclusive air-conditioned
party area, a buffet meal, unlimited soda and beer, a goodie bag,
and door prizes. Limited seats will be available for round-trip
transportation to the Cardinals/Cubs game on Sept. for an additional
cost of $25.

The Land of Lincoln Soil Savers club is sponsoring a summer
outing that includes a tour of the USDA Research Center in Peoria
and a Peoria Chiefs baseball game. The tour and game will be Monday,
A few reservations remain for the ag research tour. It will begin
at 3:30 p.m. and conclude around 5 p.m. This National Center for Ag
Utilization Research is the largest of the four regional centers and
the most successful in transferring technology from the laboratory
to the marketplace. More than 160 patents have been awarded to NCAUR
scientists since 1980. Areas of research that will be discussed may
include development of pennycress as an energy crop, methods to
rapidly detect pathogens in crops and food, and new food
technologies. The first 40 reservations received will be designated
to attend the tour. There is no charge for the tour.
The group will also be attending the Peoria Chiefs baseball game.
The Chiefs are the minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs and
will be playing the Beloit Snappers, the Class A affiliate of the
Minnesota Twins. A buffet will be served from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Seats
are located in the "Friendly Confines Deck." Cost of the ticket for
the game is $8 per person for club members and $10 per person for
nonmembers. The meal is included with the cost of the ticket. All

Fresh picked, locally grown blueberries and raspberries are
available for sale at the Lincoln Farmers' Market.
