[June 30, 2009]  DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Police said they arrested a Des Moines man after he reportedly lost his temper with his wife while they were traveling on Interstate Highway 235, wrenched the wheel from her and sent the car careening off the road.

Officers said Saturday night that a 26-year-old man was charged with domestic assault and was being held at Polk County Jail. His 41-year-old wife suffered minor injuries in the incident.

Officers said the couple apparently got into a verbal quarrel, which escalated when the man began kicking the windshield and snapped the rearview mirror off. Officials said the man then grabbed the wheel, which caused the car to veer off the road and hit a cement wall. The vehicle then struck a small tree.
