[March 02, 2009]  WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Police in Florida say two young girls died when the car they were riding in flipped off the Florida Turnpike and into a canal.

DonutsGood Samaritans helped police rescue 4-year-old Lexie Miller from the Chevy Malibu after its driver lost control near the Martin County-Palm Beach County line Sunday afternoon. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Divers later found 2-year-old Layla Ann Whitaker trapped in the car.

Two adults rescued from the car, 28-year-old driver Richard Whitaker and 20-year-old passenger Sarah Tandy, were in critical condition.

Sgt. Jorge Delahoz says the car hit a median and crashed through a tree line before landing in 15 to 20 feet of water. No charges have been filed and police haven't said what caused the crash.
