[March 03, 2009]  The Transit Partnership Group of Logan, Mason and Menard counties will meet March 23 to continue its effort to bring public transportation options to the three counties. The meeting will be at 10 a.m. at the American Legion in Mason City.

The group's purpose is to complete a five-phase primer in order to access Section 5311 federal transportation dollars available for rural counties. The Logan and Mason County boards began their process early 2008 and Menard County joined the efforts in September 2008. Community survey results marked the end of the second phase, and the group will now proceed to the third phase: creating an action plan to coordinate public transportation services.

"The community survey results showed us that transportation is a serious need for residents in our area," said Angela Stoltzenburg, who is serving as team leader for the effort. Stoltzenburg is executive director of Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois. "Over 60 percent of the individuals surveyed were unable to attend medical appointments in the past six months due to lack of transportation. The members of this group are confident that we can find a way to do better than that."

The public is invited to attend the March 23 meeting and join the group's efforts. For more information, interested parties should call Stoltzenburg at 217-732-2159, ext. 224.
