2008
figures on county crop yields
Send a link to a friend
[March 04, 2009]
As anticipated, Logan County had very good corn
yields for 2008, and improved soybean yields, substantiated by
preliminary figures released by the Agricultural Statistics Service.
The Logan County corn yield was established at 188 bushels per acre.
This figure fell well shy of the 197-bushel-per-acre yield achieved
in 2007. The Logan County 10-year average for corn yields is 187.3
bushels per acre (1999-2008).
|
The top yielding corn
counties in the state were Warren County with 207, McDonough at
206, Woodford at 206, Stark at 203 and Peoria with 201 bushels
per acre.
Soybean yields matched 2007 levels at 50 bushels per acre in
Logan County. The 2006 Logan County average was 52 bushels per
acre, and the 2005 average yield was 53. The 2004 crop is the
soybean record, with a yield of 56 bushels per acre. The Logan
County 10-year soybean yield average is 49.8 bushels per acre.
The top yielding county in the state for soybeans was Warren
County with a yield of 56. Following Warren County were Woodford
at 54, McDonough at 54, and Christian, Stark and Knox counties
at 53.
The top producing county for corn was McLean County once
again, with a total production of 69,920,000 bushels of corn.
McLean County regained the soybean production title with
12,316,500 bushels of soybeans produced. Logan County production
was 42,112,500 bushels of corn and 5,955,000 bushels of
soybeans.
Wheat fell off the radar screen again in Logan County, as
below 1,000 acres were harvested. Plantings were actually
higher, but many area wheat fields were destroyed because of
cold injury.
