The walks will be led by botanist Bill McClain, retired program
manager from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. McClain
has studied the flowers and history of Elkhart Hill for over 25
years. Everyone on the walks will receive a "wildflower bingo"
card to learn the names of the flowers and to keep track of the
beautiful wildflowers they see.
Before the walks, participants can enjoy breakfast or lunch in
downtown Elkhart at the Bluestem Bake Shop, Talk of the Town
restaurant or Wild Hare Café. Walkers should meet in downtown
Elkhart at the Bluestem Bake Shop for the 9:30 a.m. walk and at
Classical Vintage, a new shop in downtown Elkhart, for the 1:30 p.m.
walk.
Each outing will last approximately 90 minutes, and each group is
limited to 15 people. Children must be age 7 or older and
accompanied by an adult.
Reservations are required for both walks, and registration closes
on April 15. The cost is $5 per person.
Most of the outing will be on foot, so walkers should dress for
the weather and bring insect repellent.
