[March 11, 2009]  The most interaction Matthew Cusey typically has with patients at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital is delivering their meals. But in those few minutes, he manages to go above and beyond, creating a great experience for both the patient and the staff.

DonutsNominated by two nurses at ALMH, Cusey was named March Employee of the Month. He has worked in dietary for two years.

"He always takes lids off trays and makes sure the patients have everything they need before leaving the room," says nominator Michelle Green, a nurse in ICU. "He immediately lets the nurse know if any problems arise. It helps the staff out tremendously to take these few extra minutes with patients. Plus he is always smiling, polite and great to work with."

Cusey is a high school graduate who is currently enrolled at Heartland Community College in Bloomington. He says ALMH is a nice place to work, very friendly and is able to schedule his shifts around his college classes.

Working in dietary is a good job for anyone 16 or older, he says.

"I do anything from scrubbing pans to making salads and a few other foods," Cusey says. "It just depends on what job I am assigned to for the day."

Cindy Jette, another ICU nurse, says Matt is always very helpful.

"Matt is willing to get extra things for patients, helps them with their trays," she says. "He is a great example of making this a great place to work."

ALMH employs more than 290 in a wide variety of job functions. A different employee is honored each month for their commitment to "creating great patient experiences, getting great results and making ALMH a great place to work.
