FBI takes over city finance investigation

Send a link to a friend

[March 25, 2009]  Since early February, City Hall, the Illinois State Police and the Logan County state's attorney's office have been mum concerning the resignation of City Clerk Melanie Riggs and the investigation being conducted by Illinois State Police into the city's records and finances. Now, it appears another agency has taken over the case, and still there is no word on exactly what the investigation encompasses.

Mayor Beth Davis-Kavelman was not in attendance at Monday night's council meeting but released the following prepared statement prior to the meeting:

The investigation regarding former Lincoln City Clerk Melanie J. Riggs has been transferred to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Springfield, Illinois Division, with assistance from the Illinois State Police. Information was exchanged at a meeting held between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and City of Lincoln Officials.

Any further inquiries should be directed to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Springfield, Illinois Division.

Mayor Elizabeth A. Davis-Kavelman
