[March 27, 2009]  Logan County Deputy Coroners Jason Southerland and Doug Brooks recently received certificates from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board for having successfully completed the Basic Illinois County Coroners Training Course, pursuant to Public Act 85-895. The course material included forensic entomology, pathology, anthropology, toxicology, Illinois statutes regarding coroner responsibilities and duties, crime scene investigation, inquests, autopsies, organ and tissue donation, and administrative tasks.

Donuts"The 40-hour training is a mandated training for all newly elected, first-term coroners and also highly recommended for deputy coroners," said Logan County Coroner Robert Thomas. "I am sure these deputies are better prepared to serve Logan County because of the knowledge and experience they have gained from this class."

The costs associated with this training were paid for by the Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
