Semi overturns near milepost 134 on I-55

[March 31, 2009]  SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois State Police District 9 released the following accident report:

Incident: Roll-over of truck tractor and semitrailer

Location: Interstate 55 southbound, south of milepost 134

Date, time: March 30, 4:53 p.m.

Individual involved: Driver David L. Cranson, 45, Mesick, Mich.

Unit: Blue 2000 Peterbilt truck tractor

Assisting agencies: Lincoln EMS, Logan County Sheriff's Department, Illinois Department of Transportation, Atlanta Police Department and two members of Atlanta Rescue.

Narrative: A blue 2000 Peterbilt tractor pulling a 2006 Great Dane trailer was traveling on I-55 southbound, south of milepost 134, in the right-hand lane of traffic. The tractor-trailer was pushed into the left lane by a strong gust of wind. The driver overcorrected, causing him to lose control. The tractor-trailer turned over onto its left side, blocking both lanes of traffic. I-55 southbound was closed for four hours while the tractor-trailer rig was turned upright and the debris was cleared from the interstate. There were no injuries.
