[May 01, 2009]  (AP)  A strong storm system moving up the Ohio Valley was expected to trigger moderate to heavy showers Friday from the southern Plains to the Northeast.

Total rainfall amounts were to range less than an inch, with more expected in areas of thunderstorm development. Severe storms were possible.

Dry and mostly sunny skies were expected in the upper Great Lakes with highs in the 50s, while the lower Great Lakes would see wet weather in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

Temperatures in the mid-80s were forecast for the Southeast.

In the West, light showers were expected early over Colorado, moving into Kansas later in the day.

The Pacific Northwest was to see increasing clouds with light rain by evening. Northern California was to get scattered showers throughout the day, totaling between a half-inch and 1 inch, and highs in the 50s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a low of 16 degrees at Yellowstone, Wyo., to a high of 99 degrees at Pecos, Texas.
