On May 23, RJD Hobbies, owned by
Lorrie and Darrell Paige, and the Post 263 American Legion family
are teaming up for a remote-control racing event to help veterans in
nursing homes and hospitals.

Racers from throughout Illinois and surrounding states will
participate in the event, hosted by RJD Hobbies, 1302 Route 10,
Lincoln. Remote-control cars are for any age, men, women, boys and
girls. Opening ceremonies will be at 10 a.m., with races following
until late evening. There will be five classes of races:
intermediate buggy, intermediate arena truck, expert buggy, expert
arena truck and slash. Trophies will be awarded to the top five of
each class. There will be door prizes for drivers.
All proceeds will be put into the American Legion Auxiliary rehab
fund for veterans.
Even if you do not race, bring a lawn chair and enjoy the event.
It will be a fun day for all ages.
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 263 will have coffee and doughnuts
available starting at 8 a.m., and lunch will be available at 10 a.m.
On the menu for lunch are vegetable soup, sloppy joes, nachos and
cheese, and homemade desserts.
There will also be a 50-50 drawing.

This event is on American Legion poppy weekend, May 22 and 23. The
American Legion family will be out distributing poppies at IGA,
Kroger and Wal-Mart on Friday from noon until 8 p.m. and on Saturday
from 8 a.m. to noon. Poppies will also be available at the race for
a contribution.
