[May 16, 2009]  Congratulations to Chris Hanson, winner of the Cow Chip Bingo prize at the third annual YMCA event.

For information on Lincoln Area YMCA programs and events, visit the downtown office, 604 Broadway St., Suite 1; call 735-3915; or visit www.lincolnymca.org. The YMCA Activity Center is at 721 Wyatt Ave.

The winning row was sponsored by Guzzardo's Italian Villa. The YMCA sends a big thanks to all the sponsors, volunteers and staff for their hard work and dedication. The Y also thanks Doug Kaiser for taking such wonderful pictures, the Rankin family for supplying Early the Cow, the One Day Closer band, Cpl. Michael Block with the Logan County Sheriff's Department, Officer Kenny Greenslate with D.A.R.E. and the Lincoln Police Department, Lincoln Rural Fire Department, archery instructor Dave Duvall, and Lincoln Mayor Keith Snyder for helping making this event such a huge success. The weather was beautiful, the kids were excited, and all present seemed to have fun.

The YMCA has already started planning next year's event, so send your Cow Chip Bingo feedback to lincolnymca@lincolnymca.org to let them know what you think works and what needs improving.

The YMCA thanks all the volunteer soccer coaches for helping make this a successful spring soccer season.

On Saturday mornings from May 16 through Aug. 22, the YMCA will host paintball. This program is for children 9-15 years old who are looking for a challenging, no-impact adventure. Participants will be instructed in the fundamentals of paintball, including target shooting -- first standing still, then while maneuvering around obstacles. Each week will include a new scenario.

Papermaking Art is a one-day art class on May 23. This program introduces participants to the joys of making paper from everyday materials. Participants will create a fun project made from this paper. This class is for kids in first through sixth grade and will be at the Y Activity Center from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Registrations will be taken through noon on May 22.

Registrations for YMCA Weeball will be accepted through noon on May 21. This program meets on Saturday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30, beginning May 23, and is for children 4 years old through kindergarten. Participants will learn the basics of baseball, including throwing, catching, hitting and running bases, with an abbreviated game played each week.

Register by June 1 for the Sports of all Sorts Camp. This camp is for kids 4-5 years who are interested in learning the basics of soccer, basketball, baseball and football. Participants will meet the week of June 15-18 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Y Activity Center.

Register for YMCA Girls Basketball Camp before June 1 to avoid a $10 fee increase. Join Carol Wilson, Lincoln College basketball coach, as she instructs participants in the fundamentals of basketball, including dribbling, passing, shooting and defense. This camp will be June 15-18 from 10 to 11 a.m. for first through third grade and from 11 a.m. to noon for fourth to sixth grade.

Two exciting YMCA Art Camps are scheduled for this summer. At Camp 1, Storybook Art, on June 22-25 participants will learn through hands-on activities how to create illustrations using such styles as drawing, painting, collage, assemblage and construction. Camp 2, Clay, will be July 6-9, with participants using pinch, coil and other techniques to mold clay into amazing creations. Participants will create a new project each day and have a chance to try out a real pottery wheel.
