[May 23, 2009]  (AP)  A low pressure system in the Gulf of Mexico will continue producing scattered showers and thunderstorms over the Gulf states Saturday. Several inches of rain will fall, and coastal flooding will remain a threat.

This storm will start to push northward into the Lower Mississippi Valley, bringing moisture and scattered showers. The Southern Plains will see increasingly cloudy skies with possible scattered showers developing over Texas.

To the north, a frontal boundary will continue to track eastward through the Midwest. The front will extend from the Great Lakes and into the Central Plains, kicking up scattered showers with possible thunderstorms. Expect less than a tenth of an inch of rain in most areas.

The Northern Plains will see a few clouds and highs in the 70s. Meanwhile, the Northeast will see increasingly cloudy skies with scattered showers. Expect warm and humid conditions with highs in the 70s and 80s.

The Central and Southern Rockies will continue seeing scattered showers and thunderstorms due to small troughs of low pressure moving through the region. Expect mostly cloudy skies and cool conditions with highs in the 50s and 60s. Seasonable conditions with mostly sunny skies are anticipated over the West Coast.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 25 degrees at Stanley, Idaho to a high of 99 degrees at Imperial, Calif.
