[May 28, 2009]  BOULDER, Colo. (AP) -- Police in Boulder, Colo., say a man who killed his wife and son, then himself, at the family's home had been fired as a police officer in the 1970s.

Police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said Wednesday that 61-year-old Philip F. Dileo (duh-LAY'-oh) was fired as a police officer in 1972 for multiple policy violations.

She couldn't say more because it's a personnel matter. She says Dileo was reinstated in 1975 after a lawsuit, but didn't know why he left a month later.

The victims were 63-year-old Elizabeth Schwarzenbach-Dileo and 23-year-old Philip Christopher Dileo. They were believed to have been shot Monday.

Police say there were indications Dileo had threatened both his relatives previously.
