[May 28, 2009]  The Lincoln College men's basketball team has signed six new players to join next year's team. The Lynx are looking to reload after last season's 27-10 (13-3) campaign that captured the Midwest Athletic Conference championship, Region 24 championship and a third-place finish at the NJCAA national tournament.

These players join Louie Schonauer of Lincoln, who committed last month to play for the Lynx.

DeMarius Sumrell -- Peoria Woodruff. 6-foot-1, guard. Sumrell is a very athletic guard who can handle and get to the basket. He is a great passer who can get others involved, but also has the ability to get a basket when he needs to. With an improved jump shot and work in the weight room he has a very bright future. He played high school basketball at Peoria Limestone.

Jordan Softley -- Decatur MacArthur. 6-foot-3, 170, guard. Softley brings an athletic slashing presence to the offensive side of the ball. The coaching staff plans to work with him on getting stronger and if that happens, he has the ability to be a great defender because he is so long and athletic.

Misc

Kiel Turpin -- Normal West. 6-foot-10, 215, post. Turpin has an incredible upside, and the coaching staff is extremely excited to start working with him this fall. There are not many 6-foot-10 players in the league, and if he gets stronger, he can be a dominant force in the conference over the next two years.

Chuck Woodson -- Carbondale. 6-foot-1, 165, guard. Woodson has a sneaky explosiveness about him. He can take it off the dribble to the basket and also shoot the 3. He is long and can guard big and is another great rebounding guard.

[to top of second column]

Terrell Williams -- Illinois Valley Central. 6-foot-3, 190, forward. Williams is built rock-solid and is a great athlete. He finished seventh in the IHSA state triple jump last year. He has a decent midrange jump shot. In order for him to reach his full potential, he will have to improve his ball handling on the perimeter.

Roy McElroy -- Waubonsie Valley. 6-foot-6, 220, center. McElroy is very athletic and strong. He can bench press over 270. He brings an athletic and physical presence to the inside game to complement Turpin. He is at his best when he doesn't let his thought process of what to do freeze his athletic ability.

These players will join Chris Ware, 6-foot-6 returning center who was voted third team all-conference, and Kenyon Smith, 5-foot-11, a transfer from Illinois State University. The Lynx still have three scholarship offers out and expect to have recruiting completed by the end of the month.
