Quinn appoints members to economic panel

[November 02, 2009]  CHICAGO (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn has appointed 35 members to the state's Economic Recovery Commission.

HardwareQuinn announced the appointments on Saturday. According to the governor's office, the panel was formed "for dealing with the current economic downturn while also preparing plans to ensure the long-term health and prosperity of Illinois' economy."

The commission has two co-chairmen, Evanston investment banker Alexander Rorke and the mayor of Quincy, John Spring. Commission members are to provide Quinn with advice and information on the state economy in a report due on or before March 31, 2010.

Quinn's office says the members come from business, academic, government and nonprofit backgrounds. The commission's first meeting is Monday in Springfield.
