[November 03, 2009]  The Logan County Department of Public Health has expanded the eligibility to receive the H1N1 vaccine to people 25 through 64 years of age with underlying health conditions, hypertension-only excluded.

"We want to make vaccination available to as many persons as possible in the priority groups with our current supply of vaccine," said Mark Hilliard, administrator of the health department.

"Several thousand doses of H1N1 vaccine have been ordered, and it is anticipated that the supply will be adequate to vaccinate everyone that wants to be vaccinated," according to Hilliard. In the interim the health department asks those not in one of the priority groups to remain patient until additional vaccine becomes available.

  • Children 6 months through 24 years of age.

While we wait for additional H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccine to become available, it is important to limit the spread of flu by adopting the three "C's":

  • CLEAN -- Wash your hands often.

  • COVER -- Cover your cough and sneeze.

  • CONTAIN -- Contain your germs, Stay home if you are sick.

Also, avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth -- that's how germs are spread, reminds Shana Bean, emergency response coordinator at the health department.
