[November 07, 2009]  QUINCY -- Lincoln College dropped an overtime game to nationally ranked Kirkwood in the John Wood Classic.

The Lynx were down at half 37-25.

"Kirkwood really put us on our heels to start the game," said Lincoln College coach Kirk Whiteman. "We told the team at half to be more aggressive attacking the basket and getting post touches."

Lincoln was able to battle back to take a six-point lead with three minutes to play. However LC gave up a couple of offensive rebounds and had a key turnover down the stretch. The Lynx went 1-2 from the foul line with 10 seconds left to take the lead 70-68. After a great defensive effort that forced Kirkwood into shooting an air ball, Kirkwood was able to get an offensive put-back basket as time expired.

"For us to battle back against a team like Kirkwood is impressive," Whiteman said. "To have the lead with 0.2 seconds left and lose in overtime is disappointing. To even be in the game was impressive, considering we gave up 23 offensive boards and had 31 turnovers. This will be an exciting season if we continue to learn from our mistakes."

Chris Ware led all scorers with 23 points on 10-10 shooting from the floor and 3-5 from the foul line along with 12 rebounds.
