[November 21, 2009]  Mubeen Khan, a pre-med student, was selected as student laureate at Lincoln College for the 2009-10 academic year.

Student laureates from Illinois colleges are recognized by the Lincoln Academy of Illinois during an annual ceremony. This year's ceremony to honor the outstanding students was Nov. 7 at the Old State Capitol State Historic Site in Springfield. This is the 35th year the academy has recognized student laureates.

During the ceremony, Khan was presented with a special commemorative medallion, along with a $150 honorarium and a certificate of achievement. The ceremony was followed by a luncheon at the Illinois governor's mansion with the governor.

When announcing her selection as student laureate, LC President John Hutchinson said: "We are thrilled that Mubeen is being recognized with this prestigious award. She is an amazing young woman and a role model for her classmates. She truly embodies the spirit of Lincoln College."

Khan will graduate from Lincoln College in May. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Basheer and Najeeb Khan, she is a 2008 graduate of Wheeling High School in Wheeling.

A dynamic young woman, she was previously named to LC's special honors list, which is reserved for students with a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average. Khan serves as vice president of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society, and works as a peer tutor in the college's Academic Success Center.
