Sharon Cheek

[September 29, 2009]  ATLANTA -- Sharon Duwayne Cheek, 82, of Pekin, formerly of Atlanta, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at 1:05 a.m. at Timbercreek Rehab & Healthcare Center in Pekin.

His funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta. Visitation will be during the hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Atlanta Cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Cheek was employed at Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 35 years.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was born in Atlanta on Nov. 11, 1926, a son of Walter E. and Mary Garnet Cheek. He married Betty Rose Brandt on Nov. 9, 1945, in New Orleans. She preceded him in death on June 14, 1998.

He is survived by two sons, Joe (and Brinda) Cheek of Pekin and Craig (and Estella) Cheek of Lowell, Ark.; one brother, Weldon (and Billie) Cheek of Atlanta; six grandchildren, Teresa (and Ryan) McLane, Starla Corn, Janelle Cheek, Alex (and Kimberly) Cheek, Jennifer Cheek and Bryan (and Valerie) Cheek; a special niece, Janet Hart of Phoenix, Ariz.; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

He graduated from Atlanta High School in 1944. 

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
