[October 01, 2009]  CHAMPAIGN -- On Wednesday evening the Lincoln College volleyball team traveled to Champaign to take on Parkland College. Lincoln (14-9) gave the No. 4-ranked Cobras a run for their money, but in the end LC fell in four sets 18-25, 18-25, 30-28, 15-25.

LC stats:

  • Chelsea Barr -- 17 digs, 4 points

  • Melanie Herbeck -- 9 set assists, 8 digs, 4 kills

  • Gretchen Rieger -- 7 kills, 15 digs, 3 points

  • Lara Dawson -- 4 kills, 4 blocks, 6 points, 3 aces

  • Abbie Hare -- 3 kills, 5 blocks

  • Emily Fox -- 8 points, 3 digs

Comments from LC coach Mark Tippett: "Our players competed very well against one of the better teams in the country tonight. We were aggressive with our serving and proved we can volley with a strong offensive team. Our front-row players blocked well at the net, which kept things close during the first three sets. Parkland seemed to have a knack for putting together a three-point run at just the right time to get away from us, but overall we played right with them. I was proud of the effort we gave tonight and encouraged by the way we competed."

LC will continue their stretch of road games with a tri-match at Carl Sandburg College on Thursday.
