Send a link to a friend

[October 07, 2009]  The most effective way to protect yourself from the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus is to receive the H1N1 vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Logan County Department of Public Health recommend that certain groups of the population receive the H1N1 vaccine when it first becomes available. In the target groups are:

  • Pregnant women.

  • People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months years of age.

  • Health care and emergency medical services personnel.

  • People between the ages of 6 months and 24 years old.

  • People ages 25 through 64 years of age with an underlying health condition or compromised immune system.

The 2009 H1N1 vaccine will be available to the community as soon as possible. Please continue to monitor this "flu fact" column to find out when the 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccine will be available to the above priority groups.

For more information, visit www.flu.gov and www.lcdph.org or call the Logan County Department of Public Health at 217-735-2317.
