A dark 'Lonely Avenue' turn for Stray Cat Setzer

[October 09, 2009]  MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Guitarist-singer Brian Setzer shows his love for those edgy films of the 1940s and '50 on his new CD.

The Brian Setzer Orchestra's "Songs From Lonely Avenue" will be released next Tuesday on Surfdog Records.

Setzer tells The Associated Press he got the idea after coming up with dark, dramatic riffs that sounded like a film-noir soundtrack. He says he loves those movies and their soundtracks.

Setzer celebrated his 50th birthday last April with a performance of the Stray Cats in Minneapolis, where he now lives. But for now, the Grammy winner is getting ready to kick off his seventh annual Christmas Rocks! Extravaganza tour. It starts Nov. 20 in Detroit.
