[October 17, 2009]  GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) -- A western Pennsylvania man has been charged with bringing a prohibited offensive weapon into a county courthouse: a cane that included a sheathed 17-inch knife blade.

Carl Miller Jr., 47, said he bought the cane at a flea market and didn't know it could be pulled open and contained the blade. Miller was freed on bond after his arraignment Thursday.

Westmoreland County Park Police, who run metal detectors at the courthouse in Greensburg, said the incident happened Aug. 25. An officer said an X-ray machine at the courthouse entrance revealed the blade, so police opened the cane and found it.
