Residents promote Elkhart

[October 20, 2009]  ELKHART -- A group of Elkhart residents have decided to organize to help the Elkhart Village Board and the city.

The group will be volunteers to help keep Elkhart in top physical shape, including making sure the streets are always clean and attractive for residents and visitors alike.

The group's first project will be to build an informational sign near Route 66 at the entrance to Elkhart. They will incorporate the old signage and use volunteer labor to build the new one.

The group hopes to have an organized force of volunteers to act as "letter changers" and is looking for individuals or families who will volunteer for this task one month out of the year.

The sign will have locking vandal covers so the letters will not freeze to the tracks. The sign will be reachable from the ground so there will be no need for a ladder to change messages.

If you wish to volunteer on this initial project, you can call Mona Maas at 217-947-2083 or Boo Anderson at 217-947-2432.
