Lady Lynx 'think pink' to fight breast cancer

[October 20, 2009]  The Lincoln College volleyball team is joining in the fight against breast cancer. All week student-athletes and coaches are collecting donations to benefit both the Breast Cancer Research Center and St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

The team began raising money on behalf of breast cancer research in 2006. Every year since then, they have raised money during one special match. This year, the volleyball team and coaches have been collecting money for more than a week. Donations are also being accepted at the main information desk in the Harts Science Building on campus.

The fundraiser will culminate on Wednesday during the 6 p.m. home game against Lincoln Land Community College in the Davidson-Sheffer Gymnasium. The event is open to the public. Admission is just $4 for adults, $2 for kids, and all proceeds will be donated to charity.

During this special matchup, the Lady Lynx will don special pink jerseys in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

When announcing the collection drive, Lincoln coach Mark Tippett asked the entire campus and community to rally behind the team's efforts. "Breast cancer is a devastating illness, but we can all make a difference," he said. "Let's pack the gym. We want to see a sea of pink in the stands!"
