City of Lincoln leaf pickup schedule

[October 20, 2009]  The city street department in Lincoln will provide leaf collection to all residents on the following dates:

• Ward 1 -- Nov. 2, Nov. 13, Nov. 25

• Ward 2 -- Nov. 4, Nov. 16, Nov. 30

• Ward 3 -- Nov. 6, Nov. 18, Dec. 2

• Ward 4 -- Nov. 9, Nov. 20, Dec. 4

• Ward 5 -- Nov. 12, Nov. 23, Dec. 7

Residents must have their leaves in paper biodegradable bags and placed by the curb before 7 a.m. on their scheduled day of pickup. No brush or other landscape material will be picked up, only the leaves. If the bags are not out when the crews drive the routes, the crews will not come back until the next scheduled day for that ward.

Other ways to get rid of your leaves are as follows:

• Use a mulching mower blade on your mower.

• Burn your leaves. You can burn in the city limits on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. as long as you are no closer than 50 feet from any structure and have a garden hose or some other extinguishing device present. You also must be watching the fire at all times. You may not burn on asphalt or seal coat roadways.

• You can bring your own leaves to the city's landscape waste facility on the corner of Broadwell Drive and Lincoln Parkway. The fall extended hours will start Oct. 27 and run until Nov. 25 on the following days: Tuesday through Sunday, 8 a.m.-3:50 p.m. After Nov. 25 the facility will be open on Wednesdays and Saturdays with the same hours.
