Time to test the waters

[October 23, 2009]  Marvin Pincus paced up and down the house and in the yard and drove Marjorie crazy until the local paper hit the lawn. The Valley Weekly Miracle was like many other local American papers; it's what people can't wait to read to see how much the editor dared to print.

With the paper spread out on the kitchen table, Marvin quickly found his ad under "Local Services."

Try the fly-tying method of achieving success in life and love. Is your love life a catch-and-release situation? From the slightest midge of problems to the deepest wire-wrapped bead-head woolly bugger dilemmas, let the master fly tier and advice giver help you cast out your troubles and make your dreams come true. Call Marvin Pincus. (and it gave his phone number).

He grinned while reading it at least four times, and then handed it to Marjorie.

"What do you think, Honey?"

"Proven results?" she said.

[to top of second column]

"Hey, Randy and Katie. The proof is in the pudding. All we have to do now is wait for the phone to ring. We've got the new chair set up in the den and I've got all the fly-tying ingredients ready. I even picked up more goose biots in case someone has a stonefly nymph complication. They work well on the feelers and the split tails, you know. They'll get right to the bottom of the creek ... and the problems."

"Well ... it's sure good to see you enjoying this. Are you sure you're ready?"

He thought a minute. "To be honest, I'm a bit weak on those swept-back wings on the wet flies. Need a lot more practice with those, but for the dry fly problems, my hackles will stand up to anyone's."

Marjorie smiled at her husband of so many years.

"I'm sure they will, Marvin. I'm sure they will."
