[September 09, 2009]  The Community Action Senior Nutrition program has received funding through the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act to provide an additional dining site to seniors 60 years or better. The funds were distributed to Community Action by the Area Agency on Aging for Lincolnland.

InsuranceCommunity Action staff members have been working with Daphne's Restaurant manager Pedro Hernandez to offer this service. The new meal offering will be on Sundays, beginning Sept. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Daphne's, located at 720 Woodlawn St. in Lincoln, and will continue until funding is depleted. A suggested donation of $3 per meal is encouraged, but no participant is turned away for inability to pay.

"We are always happy to collaborate with community businesses. The purpose of this program is keep seniors active and promote independent living," said Angie Jenkins, senior programs director.

Interested seniors can make reservations by Sept. 18 by calling 217-732-2159, ext. 240. Community Action serves low-income individuals and seniors in six central Illinois counties. For more information, visit www.capcil.org.
