Heartland's Lincoln Center to offer personal computing classes

[September 12, 2009]  Heartland Community College's Lincoln Center will offer two classes for people interested in learning basic computer functions and programs.

InsuranceIntroduction to Personal Computers familiarizes users with a variety of things that computers can do. Topics include tips on buying a PC, computer terminology, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, form letters, PowerPoint presentations and the Internet. This class will offer its participants a good deal of hands-on experience. This class will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays for three weeks, beginning Sept. 24. Fee for this course is $99, which includes course materials.

Introduction to Excel 2007 will help students gain basic skills in using this common spreadsheet application. Participants will create and edit worksheets, format cells with lines and color, create formulas using relative and absolute addressing, and change the appearance of the worksheet by inserting, deleting and hiding rows and columns. This class will be from 6 to 9:20 p.m. on Thursdays for three weeks, beginning Oct. 22. Fee for this course is $125, which includes course materials.

Both classes will meet in Room 112 of Heartland's Lincoln Center, 620 Broadway St.
