[September 23, 2009]  CHICAGO (AP) -- Police in Chicago are negotiating with a man who has barricaded himself into a hospital emergency room after firing a shot there.

Police news affairs officer Hector Alfaro says SWAT officers were called out after the man walked into the lobby of the Jesse Brown Veterans Administration Medical Center around 1:35 a.m. Wednesday and fired one round. The man then barricaded himself in a room in the emergency room area.

Alfaro says no one has been injured and the rest of the hospital has not been evacuated.

Police told the Chicago Tribune they are also investigating whether there is a connection with the death of a couple who were found fatally shot Tuesday night.
