[September 24, 2009]  SPRINGFIELD -- The program series "Let us be bold with our songs" continues Saturday at the Vachel Lindsay Home State Historic Site with a 2 p.m. performance by Springfield's Bill Furry.

"Prose Roses and Autumn Interludes: Fragrant Melodies from Vachel Lindsay's Landscape" will be presented by Furry as he performs on a variety of musical instruments, including classical guitar, mandolin and concertina. Two readers will recite works from the Lindsay family archives between the musical performances. When not playing music or baseball with his sons, Furry is the executive director of the Illinois State Historical Society.

"The ‘Let us be bold with our songs' series is an educational and entertaining experience," said Jennie Battles, Vachel Lindsay Home site manager. "The program, drawing its title from Vachel Lindsay's own words, is an opportunity for residents and guests of Springfield to enjoy Illinois artists in the setting of the famous artist's historic residence."

Limited seating is available.
