[September 28, 2009]  PALATINE -- This weekend the Lincoln College volleyball team participated in an invitational at Harper College. It was the first of what is planned to be an annual tournament. Lincoln was unable to add to its collection of tournament championships as the Lady Lynx went 2-2, which was not good enough to advance out of pool play.

LC recorded victories over Illinois Valley Community College (25-18, 14-25, 15-8) and College of Lake County (25-19, 14-25, 15-12). Lincoln suffered losses to Highland Community College (18-25, 19-25) and hosts Harper College (9-25, 14-25).

LC sophomore middle hitter Lara Dawson was named to the all-tournament team.

Lincoln's record now stands at 14-8.

Tournament totals for Lincoln:

  • Gretchen Rieger -- 23 kills, 8 digs, 9 points

  • Natalia Florczyk -- 20 kills, 7 points

  • Lara Dawson -- 15 kills, 6 blocks, 8points

  • Melanie Herbeck -- 53 set assists, 11 points

  • Emily Fox -- 14 points, 7 digs, 2 kills

  • Abbie Hare -- 10 kills, 5 blocks

Comments from LC coach Mark Tippett: "We struggled to find any consistency on offense during this tournament. Our passing was shaky at times, and this led to our sending way too many free balls to the other side. We have done very well at weekend events up to this point, so maybe we were due for a rough outing. Hopefully we will straighten things out before we host a tri-match at home next weekend."

LC travels to Champaign to take on Parkland College on Wednesday.
