[April 20, 2010]  (AP)  Wet weather was forecast to diminish over the East Coast on Friday as a low pressure system moved northeastward from New England into eastern Canada.

InsuranceThis system has created a cold front that would continue sweeping eastward and push off the East Coast early Friday morning. Thus, as this system has produced scattered showers and thunderstorms over the eastern U.S., stormy conditions may develop in the morning, but were expected to quickly diminish as the front moved into the Atlantic Ocean. To the north, however, flow around this system would continue pushing moisture over the Northeast. This would kick up scattered showers with total accumulation less than half an inch. If thunderstorms developed, some areas could see up to an inch of rain.

Behind this system, a strong ridge of high pressure was forecast to build over the Plains and stretch into the eastern U.S. This system would allow for plenty of sunshine, warm conditions and pleasant weather Friday. The upper Midwest was expected to see highs in the 60s, while the South would reach into the mid-70s to 80.

Farther west, a low pressure system in western Canada would create a mild front that would extend into the northern Rockies. This system was expected to kick up a few light snow showers with up to an inch total accumulation, while also bringing strong winds with gusts up to 30 mph in Montana and Wyoming. Moist onshore flow from the Pacific Ocean would also produce some light precipitation over the Pacific Northwest. Overcast skies with a few scattered showers were expected, while the rest of the West Coast remained warm and dry.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a low of 6 degrees at Yellowstone, Wyo., to a high of 87 degrees at Westminster, Md.
