[April 20, 2010]  COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) -- Police are investigating after a Columbus couple's talk of reconciliation ended with the woman repeatedly slashing the man with two butcher knives.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reported Sunday that Columbus police met with the 22-year-old man at The Medical Center after he drove himself there for treatment.

He said he and his ex-girlfriend started arguing at her apartment Friday as they discussed reconciliation. The man told the woman he didn't want to be with her anymore.

He told police she then went into the kitchen, came back with two butcher knives and blocked the apartment door.

He was cut on the face, arm and hand during the ensuing struggle.

Investigators said he admitted punching her in self-defense. When he finally was able to get past her, she stabbed him in the lower back as he ran out the door.
