[April 16, 2010]  Reminder: The seventh annual Run for Your Life will be held at Lincoln Christian University at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 16. This two-mile run/walk to promote health and wellness starts and ends on the LCU campus. Participants will tour the campus grounds and nearby neighborhoods on a flat and fast course. The cost for late entrants is still only $15.

Awards will be given in nine different age groups and special categories. Cash awards will be given to overall winners in both male and female categories. Sponsors this year are Kristen Green-Morrow, M.D., of Lincoln Healthcare Specialists, LCU Alumni Association, Wells Fargo, Christian Homes, Lincoln Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep, Century Dental Center, Apple Dental Center, Castle Manor, Charron's Auto Repair and Graue Chevrolet.

The Humane Society of Logan County adopt-a-thon, featuring dogs and cats, will be at Ace Hardware from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17.

The organization's first dog wash of the season will be on Saturday, April 24, at Graue Inc. from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Come to the rear of the building. Cost: nail trimming $7, wash by donation.

It was a grand slam at the Christian Village for the Cardinals' opening day! The residents enjoyed hot dogs, memorabilia and reminiscing about the games. They watched 100 years of Cardinal baseball and sang "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."

"The Cardinals have always been my favorite team ever since I was a young boy," said Russell Cross, 84. "My dad and I would listen to the games on the radio. There wasn't TV's back then."

Rudelle Goodwin, 98, added, "My whole family would go to the games. It was so much fun meeting with the players before the game!"

Arrive & Drive with the Abe Lincoln Quarter Midget Association

This is a chance for children ages 5-15 to drive a quarter midget race car. Ten laps for $10. All safety equipment provided. It's on Saturday April 17, at Rocking Horse Campground, Broadwell from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There is a Family Carnival, sponsored by Logan County Domestic Abuse & Violence Task Force, at the California Bar & Grill, 203 Madigan Drive in Lincoln, on Saturday, April 17. The hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be a dunk tank, bounce house and hot dogs. Art contest winners will be awarded prizes at 1 p.m.
