Pro wrestling excitement was
in Mount Pulaski on Saturday evening, and the enthusiastic crowd
appreciated all of it. The referee pounded the canvas many, many
times in endeavors to get that 3-count completed for each match.
Much staging was, of course, expected, but everyone also saw
the red marks, the swollen body parts and the bloody lips, not to
mention the heavy breathing and flowing perspiration.
One wrestler had a swelling
the size of an egg on his eyebrow. More than one fighter had to be
helped out of the ring or off the floor when he had a hard landing.
More than one set of fighters took it outside the
ring among the crowd, who enjoyed the "up close and personal." Lots
of ice was given out to both the winners and losers following their
matches.
The two-hour event was all clean
fun, with no swearing and plenty of theatrics on display. The crowd
got a huge kick out of the continual verbal exchanges that went back
and forth between the wrestlers and various members of the crowd.
Even the ref got blindsided on at least one occasion. The fighters
were from Pekin, Joliet, Danville and as far away as Kansas City.
There were even a couple from nearby Lincoln.
