[April 26, 2010]  SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Brad Penny, Jason Motte and Ryan Franklin combined on a nine-hit shutout, Albert Pujols hit his team-leading seventh home run and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the San Francisco Giants 2-0 on Sunday to avoid a series sweep.

Penny (3-0) gave up eight hits over 7 2-3 innings, striking out two with no walks while outpitching former teammate Matt Cain. The Cardinals' right-hander, who played for San Francisco in 2009, didn't allow a runner past second base while lowering his ERA to 0.94.

Pablo Sandoval and Andres Torres had three hits apiece for the Giants, who were shut out for the second time in five games.

Pujols finished with three hits for the 137th time in his career and improved to 8 for 12 lifetime against Cain (0-1).
