[April 27, 2010]  NEW YORK (AP) -- Public officials and members of the art world are gathering for a New York City memorial honoring artist Jeanne-Claude.

The memorial is being held Monday afternoon at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Met director Philippe de Montebello are expected to speak.

Jeanne-Claude created the 2005 New York installation "The Gates" and other large scale "wrapping" projects around the globe with her husband, Christo. She died in November at age 74.

More than 5 million people saw "The Gates," which festooned Central Park's footpaths with thousands of saffron-colored drapes.
